Tree and Ladder is a landscape maintenance company specializing in holistic and organic fruit care. Our mission is to help increase self-sufficiency and food security through increasing the productivity and quality of homegrown fruits for residents and home owners through holistic management practices.

Holistic fruit management starts with choosing the right plants and the right location, building fertile soil, tending to the needs of the plant throughout the seasons.

For the past 14 years, Jessie has been farming and teaching small-scale sustainable agriculture. She is a graduate of the UC Santa Cruz Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems, and has an A.S degree in Horticulture. She leads orcharding classes at Portland Nursery and teaches gardening workshops at the Esalen Institute, where she worked as the Farm Supervisor. Jessie is passionate about sharing her knowledge and skills for fruit growing with backyard orchardists and urban homesteaders through Tree and Ladder.

Tom has been farming organically and tending land since 2011. He is driven to continue to learn, grow and share skills in land stewardship. He apprenticed with Jessie in the farm and garden of the Esalen Institute in 2012 and holds a B.S. degree in Economics from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Previously Tom owned and ran his own organic nursery business and installed edible landscapes. In 2015 Tom moved to Sandy, OR to intern with Flying Coyote Farm where he helped grow organic vegetables for local farmer’s markets, as well as raise goats, pigs and chickens. Tom is excited to return to the work of edible landscaping as well as share his interests and skills in fruit growing through Tree and Ladder.
